Woman assaulted outside Olympia church

CHELSEA KROTZER

Olympia police are searching for a man they say attacked a woman outside a church Saturday night, according to a news release.

The 38-year-old woman was taking out the trash at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Yew Avenue at 8:30 p.m. when a man apparently attacked her.

The woman told police she was able to "resist" the attack and the man fled. Police searched the area using a police dog but could not find the suspect, the release said.

The woman was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with minor injuries. She has since been treated and released.

The suspect is described as a white man between the ages of 25 to 35 years old. He is about 6-feet tall with dark hair and a full beard. Anyone with information is asked to call the Olympia Police Department at 360-753-8300 or Thurston County Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.
