A 66-year-old man bit one Lacey police officer and pushed another to the ground, injuring her, after police were dispatched Wednesday night to a residence in the 3900 block of 21st Avenue on a report of a man throwing furniture in his yard, court papers state.

The man was arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of two counts of third-degree assault of a police officer.

According to court papers:

Police discovered a door, a bed, broken glass and numerous other items in the home’s yard. After several attempts to contact the man, officers decided to enter the residence to check on his well being. The man blocked the door to his bedroom, and officers unsuccessfully deployed a Taser after the man later ran down a hallway in an attempt to flee.

The suspect ran into one officer, pushing her down on the ground as he held onto her legs. The officer was treated at a hospital for a minor concussion, neck injury and bruised face. The man kicked the other officer and bit his right arm as the officer tried to handcuff him.

The suspect was “continually kicking at officers and trying to get out of his handcuffs” as he was placed into custody.

Lacey Police Cmdr. Jim Mack said Thursday that the injured officer took a day off from work but was not badly injured. The bite that the other officer sustained did not break the skin, Mack added.
