A Shelton-area woman is in critical condition after she was shot while answering her door early Wednesday morning, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was reported at 3:38 a.m. on Tyler Lane, about 4 miles north of Shelton.

According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office:

The woman woke to find two men outside and was shot while opening the door. She was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia; bad weather prevented her from being flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Sheriff’s Office is familiar with the woman, and police don’t think the shooting was a random act.

At least one other person was in the house and barricaded himself or herself in the back of the home.

The two men apparently left on foot. Police searched the area until 6 a.m.

No descriptions of the men were available midday Wednesday. They are thought to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 360-427-7761.
