Man whose charred body was found at Olympia homeless camp identified

JEREMY PAWLOSKI

A transient 17-year-old whose charred remains were found at a homeless encampment off Devoe Street in Olympia on Oct. 30 has been identified as Forest Bailey, of Aloha, Ore., according to the Thurston County Coroner’s Office.

Bailey died of “homicidal violence,” Coroner Gary Warnock said Wednesday. It took several weeks to identify him through dental records, Warnock said.

Fellow transient Christopher Harris, 19, is charged with second-degree murder in Bailey’s slaying. Harris was being held Wednesday at the Thurston County Jail with bail set at $750,000. Two other transients are charged with rendering criminal assistance for allegedly helping Harris dispose of the body.
