Crews arrived at the scene at about 1 a.m. By then, the fire had already engulfed the homes first floor and was rapidly extending to the second floor, according to Lacey Fire battalion chief Bob Petersen. There were no fire hydrants in the area so water was trucked in from neighboring communities.
Units from East Olympia Fire District 6, Yelm Fire District 2, South Bay Fire District 8, North Olympia Fire District 7 and McLane Fire District 9 provided mutual aid. Damage to the home and its contents are estimated at $182,000, according to Petersen.
