CHELSEA KROTZER

The Thurston County SWAT team was called to an Olympia apartment Friday night after a man with a loaded SKS assault rifle refused to cooperate with officers, according to Olympia police.

According to a news release:

Officers were trying to arrest the 35-year-old man at his apartment in the 1800 block of Ashwood Downs Lane Southeast just before 8 p.m. He was wanted on suspicion of fourth-degree domestic violence and felony harassment and had outstanding warrants.

Despite “repeated requests,” the man refused to leave the apartment.

The SWAT team was called while officers asked neighbors to leave their homes. The man was arrested after several hours.

He was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for a medical evaluation before being booked into Thurston County Jail.

In addition to the other counts, he is being held on suspicion of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
