Lacey police recover stolen vehicle, arrest suspect after chase

Lacey police arrested a 28-year-old man Monday morning on suspicion of stealing a Ford F-150 pickup from a man's driveway in the 5600 block of Parkside Drive.

The homeowner reported that the pickup was missing from his driveway when he got up to go to work about 4:45 a.m.

A Lacey police officer saw the stolen pickup about 6 a.m. being driven on 53rd Avenue Se in Lacey a little more than an hour after the officer took the report from the victim's home on Parkside Drive, Lacey Police Lt. Phil Comstock said.

According to Comstock:

The police officer tried to initiate a traffic stop of the stolen pickup on College Street, but the pickup sped away to the area of the Safeway parking lot in the 4700 block of Yelm Highway. Police gave chase, but the suspect ditched the stolen pickup behind Farrelli's Wood Fire Pizza and fled on foot. Lacey police set up a perimeter and initiated a K-9 track. Thurston County sheriff's deputies and Olympia police assisted with the perimeter.

At about 7:30 a.m., police apprehended the suspect at 57th Avenue and Mt. Rainier Drive. He had allegedly fled through backyards of area homes, jumping several fences an an attempt to elude capture.

The suspect was arrested for outstanding warrants, and on suspicion of eluding police and possession of stolen property.
