Car thefts, prowls on the rise in Thurston County

Staff report

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of an increase in auto thefts and car prowls countywide, but especially in the west and southwest quadrants of the county, according to a news release.

Citizens are advised to remove valuable items from their vehicles, including credit cards, checks, financial information and firearms.

The sheriff's office also cautions residents to keep vehicles locked, and in a well-lit or public location whenever possible. Also, citizens should never keep the title to a vehicle in the glove compartment.
