Schurke resigning as head of Labor and Industries

Judy Schurke is resigning at the end of the year as director of the Department of Labor and industries. Gov. Chris Gregoire’s office announced the decision today in a news release that praised Schurke for reforms lowering the costs of the workers compensation system and also for instituting Lean management projects to improve efficiency.

Schurke began at the agency 30 years ago, according to the Governor’s Office.

Gov.-elect Jay Inslee is to be sworn into office on Jan. 16.
