“They’re offering the job to her, and they need to negotiate the compensation package,” said communications manager Jeff Kleingartner. “We certainly hope for her to start (as director) as soon as possible.”
Heywood has served as interim public services manager for the library district for several months. Prior to that, she was senior library manager at the Olympia Timberland Library for 12 years.
She has worked for the library system since 1996 and has a master’s degree in library and information studies from McGill University.
The other two finalists were Ann Hammond, who has served as executive director of the Lexington Public Library in Kentucky since 2010, and Jeff Scott, deputy director of the Tulare County Library in Visalia, Calif.
“We had three high-quality and, frankly, unique candidates that each brought their own strengths to consider,” board of trustees president Emmett O’Connell said. “Cheryl is a dynamic leader with great vision and spectacular energy.”
Former library director Michael Crose was fired March 28 for numerous “ethical violations,” including receiving a $1,000 honorarium for speaking at a conference while also being paid by the library, according to public records obtained by The Olympian.
