Roethlisberger won't play Sunday; Batch to start

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger won't make a miraculous comeback for Sunday's AFC North showdown against Baltimore and will miss his third straight game because of rib and shoulder injuries.

Roethlisberger was a limited participant in practice Friday for a third straight day, but was listed as out on the team's injury report. He was hurt in a Week 10 game against Kansas City and began throwing this week, leading to speculation that he might be able to play Sunday. That won't be the case.

The Steelers have dropped two straight games without Roethlisberger in the lineup, losing to Baltimore two weeks ago with Byron Leftwich at the helm and falling in Cleveland this past Sunday as eight turnovers doomed Charlie Batch in his first start of the year.

Leftwich suffered a fractured rib against the Ravens, giving Batch a chance to run the offense. Batch will get another chance on Sunday in Baltimore.

Linebacker LaMarr Woodley will also miss Sunday's game, as will offensive tackle Mike Adams. Both players missed practice all week after suffering ankle injuries last Sunday.

Safety Troy Polamalu could make his return to the lineup after recovering from a calf injury. He was a full participant in practice this week and is listed as probable after missing the last seven games.
