LACEY: Area’s well water soon to have higher pH

The City of Lacey Water Utility will begin treatment of water from a well in the Capital City Golf Club neighborhood this week. The new treatment process will improve quality from the utility’s Well No. 4, which serves an area south of Yelm Highway including Capital City Golf Club, Beckenridge, Rainier Park, Horizon Pointe and the Links at Indian Summer, as well as Lacey Corporate Center to the north.

The $2.5 million dollar treatment facility is designed to raise the pH of water from the well to a level more consistent with what is found in other parts the city’s water system. The well water’s pH of about 6.4 will rise to the 7.5-8.0 range. A pH below 6.6 may be corrosive to some plumbing and fixtures.

Customers with water treatment systems, or who use water for such things as hot tubs and fish tanks, may need to adjust their treatment levels in response to the higher pH.
