Olympia, North Thurston students win awards at math competition

The Evergreen State College hosted a high school math competition on Saturday. Fifty-six students from five high schools participated in the event.

And for the fourth year in a row, Olympia High School took first place in the competition.

In addition, at least 23 students qualified to go onto the state championship round that will be held on April 20 at Evergreen.

Here are the winners, according to a news release from the college:

Overall competition

Championship: Olympia High School in Olympia

Second place: North Thurston High School in Lacey

Third place: Henry Foss High School in Tacoma

Freshman/sophomore team winners

1st place: Olympia High School

2nd place: North Thurston High School

3rd Place: Henry Foss High School

Overall individual winners

1st Place: Ray Ma, Olympia High School

2nd Place: Ernest Gu, Olympia High School

3rd Place: Ben Corbett, Henry Foss High School

Grade level winners

9th grade 1st Place: Daniel Grimm, North Thurston High School

9th grade 2nd Place: Jeremy Ong, Olympia High School

9th grade 3rd Place: Ryan Waller, Henry Foss High School

10th grade 1st Place: Ernest Gu, Olympia High School

10th grade 2nd Place: Ian Culhane, Olympia High School

10th grade 3rd Place: Jessica Jiang, Olympia High School

11th grade 1st Place: Sherwin Shabdar, Olympia High School
