Wednesday's prep basketball highlights: Black Hills' Jacob Burgess tallies career-high 30 in Wolves' win



BOYS BASKETBALL

Black Hills limited Chief Leschi to just two points in the fourth quarter to earn its second victory on the season, a 67-39 nonleague victory in boys basketball. Jacob Burgess had a career-best 30 points for the Wolves, who improve to 2-2. Josh Newell and Josh Ifanse had eight points apiece.

Seniors Jared Eidenmuller (17 points) and Keenan Williams (14) lifted Capital to a 67-62 victory over White River in the teams’ nonleague boys basketball game Wednesday night. The Hornets held a slim three-point lead at halftime before the Cougars (2-2) scored 24 third-quarter points to grab a six-point lead at 52-46 going into the fourth quarter.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hollianne Wieland had a team-high 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting and Spencer Pettit had 11 points and nine rebounds in Capital’s 43-34 nonleague win over Bremerton to improve to 2-1 overall. The Cougars held Sawyer Kluge, who had a game-high 20 points for Bremerton, to just five points in the second half.

Tumwater (2-2) earned its second straight victory, holding Shelton to without a field goal in the second and third quarters for a 41-11 nonleague win in girls basketball. Lacye Groening had a nine of her game-high 13 points in the second half for the T-Birds.

Black Hills’ winning streak continues at four games with its 60-56 road win over Class 4A Union behind Sarah McGee's team-best 14 points and 13 from Hope Mortensen.
