HIGH SCHOOLS Seniors Jared Eidenmuller (17 points) and Keenan Williams (14) lifted Capital to a 67-62 victory over White River in the teams’ nonleague boys basketball game Wednesday night. The Hornets held a slim three-point lead at halftime before the Cougars (2-2) scored 24 third-quarter points to grab a six-point lead at 52-46 going into the fourth quarter. Black Hills limited Chief Leschi to just two points in the fourth quarter to earn its second victory of the season, a 67-39 nonleague victory in boys basketball. Jacob Burgess had a career-best 30 points for the Wolves, who improve to 2-2. Tumwater earned its second consecutive victory, holding Shelton without a field goal in the second and third quarters for a 41-11 nonleague win in girls basketball. Lacye Groening had nine of her game-high 13 points in the second half for the Thunderbirds (2-2). Hollianne Wieland had a team-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Spencer Pettit had 11 points and nine rebounds in Capital’s 43-34 nonleague win over Bremerton to improve to 2-1 overall. The Cougars held Sawyer Kluge, who had a game-high 20 points for Bremerton, to five points in the second half. Black Hills stretched its winning streak to four games with its 60-56 road win over Class 4A Union behind Sarah McGee’s team-best 14 points with an added 13 points from Hope Mortensen. WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL Saint Martin’s shot 52.6 percent in the second half to pull its record to 4-4 overall with a nonleague win over visiting Pacific Lutheran, 65-53. The Lutes (0-5) rallied, trimming the Saints’ 19-point lead to four at 48-44 with 7 minutes, 45 seconds remaining in the game before a 12-4 run by Saint Martin’s gave the Saints a double-digit lead at 60-48 with 3:19 remaining. Sophomore guard Angela Gelhar had a career-high 15 points and Chelsea Haskey chipped in 11 points for Saint Martin’s. mwochnick@theolympian.com
