YELM: Police say driver in fatal crash fell asleep

A Puyallup woman was killed in a head-on crash after another driver fell asleep at the wheel Thursday night southeast of Yelm, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

Fiona M. Regan, 40, of Tenino was driving a 1994 Isuzu Trooper north on Smith Prairie Road Southeast just north of 161st Way Southeast at 9:41 p.m. when she allegedly fell asleep at the wheel.

The car crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic and hit a 1994 Isuzu Amigo.

The driver of the Amigo, Linda H. Burkhardt, 55, of Puyallup, was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she later died.

Regan was injured and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
