SOUTH SOUND: High School students put math skills to test



The Evergreen State College hosted a high school math competition Dec. 1. Fifty-six students from five high schools participated in the event.

And for the fourth year in a row, Olympia High School took first place in the competition.

In addition, at least 23 students qualified to go to the state championship round April 20 at Evergreen.

Here are the winners, according to a news release from the college:

OVERALL COMPETITION

Championship: Olympia High School.

Second: North Thurston High School, Lacey.

Third: Henry Foss High School, Tacoma.

FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE TEAM WINNERS

First: Olympia High School.

Second: North Thurston High School.

Third: Henry Foss High School.

INDIVIDUAL WINNERS

First: Ray Ma, Olympia High School.

Second: Ernest Gu, Olympia High School.

Third: Ben Corbett, Henry Foss High School.

GRADE LEVEL WINNERS

Ninth grade first: Daniel Grimm, North Thurston High School.

Ninth grade second: Jeremy Ong, Olympia High School.

Ninth grade third: Ryan Waller, Henry Foss High School.

10th grade first: Ernest Gu, Olympia High School.

10th grade second: Ian Culhane, Olympia High School.

10th grade third: Jessica Jiang, Olympia High School.

11th grade first: Sherwin Shabdar, Olympia High School.

11th grade second: Liam Lloyd, Olympia High School.

11th grade third: Sofia Kane, Olympia High School.

12th grade first: Ray Ma, Olympia High School.

12th grade second: Ben Corbett, Henry Foss High School.
