The Olympia School District will host a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Middle School, 2200 Conger Ave. NW, Olympia.

Twenty-nine teams from Tacoma to Vancouver are expected to compete at the event; the winning teams will advance to the state championship tournament on Jan. 12 in Bellevue.

Volunteers are needed to help run the event, with tasks such as set-up, tear-down, registration and judging. Prior experience is not required. Spectators also are welcome to attend. For more information, go to stempals.org or contact Randy Steele at 360-596-7600 or rsteele@osd.wednet.edu.
