Tumwater's Andrew Brown verbally commits to Washington for track and field

• Published December 16, 2012

Tumwater High School senior Andrew Brown gave a verbal commitment to the University of Washington for track and field, he announced on Twitter Sunday night.

Brown is a multi-sport athlete -- football and track and field -- at Tumwater. He is the two-time defending Class 2A state champion in the 400 meters. Last May at the state track and field meet, Brown ran a personal-best 48.35 seconds on his way to claiming his second straight 400-meter title. He can be a three-time state champion this upcoming spring.

In addition to track and field, Brown also was The Olympian's all-area player of the year in football this fall. He led the Thunderbirds in multiple categories, including rushing, receiving and all-purpose yards. He also scored six special teams touchdowns (four punts, two kickoffs) and scored touchdowns six different ways -- rushing, receiving, punt return, kickoff return, interception and halfback pass -- helping lead Tumwater to the 2A state title game.
