Sounders FC will open its fifth Major League Soccer season March 2, when the Montreal Impact makes its first visit to CenturyLink Field.

That will be one of six matches on MLS’ opening day. It also marks the fifth straight season in which the Sounders open at home. The Sounders are 3-1 over their first four openers.

MLS announced all 19 of its home openers on Tuesday. Times and the remainder of the league schedule will be announced later. This is the earliest opening in MLS history.

Immediately after starting league play, Seattle will turn its attention to CONCACAF Champions League. The Sounders will visit Tigres of Torreon, Mexico, sometime from March 5-7, with the concluding game of the aggregate-score quarterfinal series set for March 12-14 in Seattle.

Alonso was named to the 2012 MLS Best XI. … The Portland Timbers won a weighted lottery for the rights to former United States U-17 defender Mobi Fehr. The Sounders had a 15 percent chance in the Tuesday lottery, which also included Portland and San Jose.
