Tacoma Police officer fatally shoots woman, 22
ALEXIS KRELLA Tacoma police officer shot and killed a 22-year-old woman Saturday after she pointed a gun at and advanced toward the officer, according to police. The deceased woman was identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office as Sophia Strickland, 22, of Tacoma. A woman called police and said her daughter had just fired off several rounds inside the house, and that she thought the daughter may have killed herself, said police spokeswoman Loretta Cool. Officers arrived and found the daughter still alive. They tried to communicate with her but she refused. Strickland had a handgun pointed at the officer, and started walking toward the officer, according to police.
