Teacher vigilance can protect children

PATRICIA PERRY

O ur teachers should be commended for their creative and sensitive work – going far beyond expectations. With that said, I’d like to suggest one more area of concern on their watch, since they spend so much time with our children. One out of four girls and one out of six boys will be subjected to sexual molestation. This is devastating, carrying a lifelong sentence of physical and mental anguish. I would like to suggest the school system provide specific training to increase awareness and skill in recognizing symptoms, plus knowledge of the supporting and reporting process on the path to healing.
