City Hall camping should be tolerated

I

appreciate your coverage of the new ordinances affecting the homeless camping at Olympia City Hall. When I first saw them camping there I was happy to see they found a place to sleep that appears safe and dry. I do not think it is a good place, a warm building would be better. But the taxpayers funded the building, so it is a public place and it seems reasonable to me that it be used by the homeless to provide a refuge from the rain. I have spoken to many of the young people who stay there. They are so appreciative of what little shelter the space provides. I have attended the City Council meeting and realize most of the council members do not share my view. I understand they want a pretty front porch for City Hall. I think that most of Olympia would prefer to keep our youth as safe, warm and dry as possible. Even if that means they are camping on the front steps until they have a better place to go.
