Lacey homicide victim died from injuries to neck and abdomen

A 61-year-old Lacey homicide victim died from blunt-force trauma to her neck and abdomen, court papers state.

Sheri Peters’ body was found Dec. 18 on the bathroom floor in her home in the 3800 block of 12th Avenue Southeast, according to a search-warrant affidavit. Witnesses said Peters had a history of medical problems, as well as alcohol and substance abuse, the affidavit states.

The affidavit was filed Dec. 24 in Thurston County Superior Court to check the call history of Peters’ cellphone, which was found on her bedroom dresser. Police were checking whom she had contact with before her death, Lt. Phil Comstock said Wednesday.

The County Coroner’s Office determined Peters’ death was a homicide after an autopsy Dec. 19. Two people who were living at Peters’ home around the time of her death had controlled substances, Comstock said. One was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin; another had Suboxone, which is legal when prescribed by a doctor for heroin dependence, Comstock said. That person was not arrested.

None of the narcotics found in Peters’ home are thought to have belonged to her, Comstock added.

He would not reveal other details of the investigation because it’s ongoing.

Police have seized items from Peters’ home that might be connected to her death; they are being processed at the Washington State Patrol crime lab, Comstock said.
