South Sound Highlights from Friday, Jan. 4

With 10 players scoring, including three in double figures, W.F. West pushed its perfect 2A Evergreen Conference record to 4-0 with a 76-34 home victory over Black Hills. Nate Sherfey led all scorers with 17 points, followed by 14 from Brock Wade and 10 from Mitch Gueller. The loss drops the Wolves to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in league play.

River Ridge pushed its winning streak to a season-high four games after a 64-45 win over Aberdeen in 2A EvCo play. Senior guard Brad Wallace had a game-high 30 points.

Tyler Gartner led all scorers with 23 points and Elijah Sanders had 15 to lead Timberline to a 68-44 victory over Shelton in the 3A Narrows League. Tyler Speaks paced the Highclimbers with 13 points.

Ben Peterson’s free throw with 0.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter broke a 48-all tie and lifted Tenino to a victory over Forks on the road, handing the Spartans their first loss of the seasons.

Despite a game-high 16 points from Olympia senior guard Michael Naipo, Stadium handed the Bears their first loss of the season, 53-37.

Steven Stone’s 11 points paced North Thurston in its 60-36 loss to Wilson.

Rochester picked up its first victory in 1A SWW Evergreen play with a 57-43 win over Elma.


Wilson’s 84-28 victory snapped North Thurston’s two-game winning streak in 3A Narrows League action. Wilson, which held a 55-17 lead at halftime, was led by Eastern Washington-bound point guard Bethany Montgomery’s 32 points. Katherine Welcome and Brittany Sebesta paced North Thurston with six points apiece.

Azaria Hernandez (12 points), Sarah McKee (11) and Kiara Allen (10) led Timberline to a 55-22 3A Narrows League win over Shelton. The Blazers raced out to a 24-3 lead.

A 25-8 run in the second quarter helped Olympia pull away from Stadium for a 58-32 win over the Tigers in 4A Narrows League play. Sophomore guard Sarah Snodgrass led all scorers with 19 points. Sister Laura Snodgrass had nine points, and Jona Spiller had eight.
