The office of the secretary of the Senate, its chief administrator, is moving one floor up from its spot in the wings of the Senate -- and it will have a new occupant.
Tom Hoemann is being replaced by a new, as-yet-unnamed secretary. Hoemann, a longtime legislative hand , served eight years in the job after a stint as Senate Democrats' chief of staff.
Republican caucus chairwoman Linda Evans Parlette, who is moving into the secretary's old office, said it's traditional to change secretaries during a handover of power. She said the office's staff will keep their jobs.
The office musical chairs includes Democrat Rodney Tom, the new majority leader who is allied with the GOP, moving into the leader's office formerly occupied by Democrat Lisa Brown, who retired. Democratic leader Ed Murray is taking Parlette's old office and Republican leader Mark Schoesler is taking Democratic Sen. Tracey Eide's office.
