Don’t sell Bucknell Field; kids need a place to play

I just read an article in The Olympian that really disturbed me. The North Thurston School District is considering selling Bucknell Field.

As a former women’s softball player, I object.

There are not enough fields in the area now to support women’s sports, and the district is considering eliminating this one?

My father, Joe Crawford, worked his butt off to assure that those fields were established, putting in hundreds of donated hours so that they would be perfect. He would be shocked and appalled to hear of this possibility.

These fields are essential to provide a place for our kids to participate in sports that teach teamwork and cooperation, to sponsor friendly competition and to provide a place to pursue health and wholesome exercise. If they go away, you are eliminating another place for our kids to play.

Please don’t sell the field. Our kids will suffer as a result.
