James Donald Mobley, 46, is charged with receipt and possession of child pornography. The U.S. Postal Service and Tenino Police Department are investigating. Mobley is active as a Boy Scouts volunteer and private tutor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
According to court records:
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has been investigating an international company that distributed child pornography via the mail and downloads to personal computers. In May 2011, foreign law enforcement searched the business and seized child pornography and business records.
An analysis of those records revealed that between February 2009 and January 2011, Mobley had purchased suspected child pornography from the company. Police searched Mobley’s home, seized a computer hard drive and found additional DVDs of child pornography.
Mobley was in custody at the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac, pending his detention hearing Tuesday in U.S. District Court.
Tenino Schools Superintendent Russ Pickett said Thursday that he will serve Mobley with papers placing him on administrative leave after he is released from custody. Pickett said that Mobley has taught at Tenino Elementary for 10 years. Before teaching in Tenino, Mobley taught in the Cape Flattery School District in Clallam County.
Parents with concerns can call Tenino police at 360-264-2626.
