IN THE LEGISLATURE

Booze bills are the topic of the day in the House Government Oversight & Accountability Committee. The committee will hear a proposal (House Bill 1008) to allow sales of growlers of cider as well as a bill to create a license for movie theaters to sell beer and wine (House Bill 1009). Another bill before the committee, House Bill 1001, would ban people from purchasing liquor at self-checkout machines. The bill hearings will take place at 9 a.m. in Hearing Room E of the John L. O’Brien Building.

Later, at 1:30 p.m., the Higher Education Committee will be meeting to hear recommendations from the legislative advisory committee to the Guaranteed Education Tuition (GET) Committee. The committee is expected to call for closing the GET program to all future participants as a way to close a projected program deficit.

AT THE CAPITOL

A motorcycle rally will take place on the west side of the Capitol campus in support of House Bill 1007, which would require vehicles carrying loads of gravel and rocks to be covered to prevent spillage. The rally will take place from 2-4:30 p.m.

BILL

INTRODUCTIONS

House Bill 1108 would modify the definition of felony rape in the third degree and felony indecent liberties to extend protection to spouses. Rep. Roger Goodman, D-Kirkland, is the lead sponsor of the bill.

Senate Joint Resolution 8202 would amend the state constitution to prohibit the Legislature from enacting an income tax. Sen. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale, is the lead sponsor of the resolution.
