Letters Use of free speech might shock framers

What a wonderful country we live in, that a Superior Court Justice has the freedom to make his “philosophical and religious” stance known to the public. In some countries he could be arrested, even imprisoned, for sounding like a Christian.

What a wonderful country we live in, that a pastor has the freedom to include Christian beliefs in an invocation before the Senate.

The First Amendment to the Constitution, which was introduced by the House of Representatives in 1791 and ratified by three-fourths of the states, makes it clear that nothing should prohibit the free exercise of religion, or abridge the freedom of speech.

I’ll bet all those guys who approved it would be shocked that a judge, and a pastor, mind you, should actually exercise those rights. Sarcasm intended.
