Repeal the 27 words causing much carnage

Just 27 words: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Just 27 words. But good grief, can you think of anything else that has brought such carnage to this nation?

Now 26 killed, 20 of them children, and the nation mourns and wonders what could have been done to keep a Bushmaster AR-15 from a demented man. Probably not much, because every time sane gun control is proposed, these 27 words are worshiped as if they are from the Sermon On The Mount.

One individual with a gun is not a militia — millions of individuals owning millions of guns are definitely not a well regulated militia. We have well regulated militias: the police, State Patrol, National Guard, the military.

Many years ago there was the 18th Amendment (prohibition.) Because of unintended consequences, it was repealed by the 21st Amendment and replaced by state and federal laws governing alcohol.

In my opinion, we desperately need to do the same with these 27 words.
