Thurston PUD District 2 commissioner vacancy attracts five applicants

Five people have applied to fill the Thurston Public Utility District 2 commissioner seat left vacant when former commissioner Alan Corwin resigned before the end of 2012.

District 2 includes Lacey, Rainier and Yelm.

Here are the applicants:

-Vasiliy Stupin III, chief executive of VIS Group Inc., a real estate management company.

-Daniel Cathers, an information technology specialist with the state Department of Social and Health Services.

-Gary Villanueva, spent 20 years in the Army. He most recently interned with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

-Greg Tolbert, chief solutions officer for Sirius Business LLC. Before that, he was senior legal counsel for Weyerhaeuser.

-Russell Olsen, voluntary cleanup program unit supervisor for the state Department of Ecology.

All of the applicants live in Lacey, except for Cathers and Tolbert. Cathers lives on Laredo Drive Southeast in Olympia. Tolbert lives on 39th Loop Northeast in Olympia.
