Boo: Violent threats

January 28, 2013

The worst element of modern society – those who bully with threats of violence, because they can’t manage intelligent debate – has forced a well-intentioned state representative to withdraw legislation.

Rep. Sherry Appleton from Poulsbo gave up on a bill designed to prevent a Trayvon Martin type of incident in Washington state. Martin was the Florida juvenile shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer after an encounter. Appleton’s bill would have required duty to retreat from dangerous situations.

The lawmaker received hundreds of threatening emails and telephone calls, causing her to fear for her life.

That’s not political activism. It’s arrogant intimidation.
