The award was given to schools that significantly raised student achievement in mathematics and reading, and met federally required progress goals for all student subgroups during the past three years. It included $10,000.
Other winners were Pe Ell School in the Pe Ell School District; Columbia Crest School in the Eatonville School District; Blakely Elementary School in the Bainbridge Island School District; Oakesdale Elementary School in the Oakesdale School District near Pullman; and Selkirk Elementary School in the Selkirk School District, in the northeast corner of the state.
“Achieving these kids of results isn’t easy,” said Randy Dorn, state Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I’m proud of the hard work these schools are doing to make sure that every kid is successful.”
East Olympia also was recently honored as a “School of Distinction” by the Center for Educational Effectiveness and its partners.
