The team announced Thursday that they will not be tendering Jones, a 10-game starter this past season, a qualifying offer as a restricted free agent.
"We have made the decision not to re-sign Donald," Bills general manager Buddy Nix said. "We're going in a different direction and this move today gives Donald the opportunity to catch on with another team early on in the process. We thank him for his years with our organization and wish him the best in the future."
Jones made the Bills as an undrafted college free agent in 2010 and started 22 of the 35 games he played in during his three-year stint with the organization. The 25-year-old had his most productive campaign this past year, establishing career highs in catches (41), receiving yards (443) and touchdowns (4) over 12 games.
Over his three seasons in Buffalo, Jones compiled 82 receptions for 887 yards with six touchdowns.
Medical reasons may have played a part in the Bills' decision to part ways, as Jones finished 2012 on the non-football/illness list with an undisclosed condition and was limited to eight games the previous year by an ankle injury.
