The implication is that any man could be expected to serve a government unit to make sure that rules were followed, that people could live in peace.
The amendment was not only about “the right to bear arms.” For years there were good reasons for farmers to have guns to shoot wolves or other wild animals that threatened the lives of farm animals or their crops. In this country there is still a reason to own a gun for hunting.
Having examined hundreds of criminals, including murderers and some mass murderers, I never had a case when a victim who owned a gun had used it in self-defense.
Thoughts of safety and pride may be reason to buy guns. “I am an American. I have the right to own a gun!”
The greatest reason for over-abundance of guns is to make money by producing and selling guns.
