Olympia police arrested a 61-year-old homeless man early Tuesday morning on suspicion of spray-painting 10 parked vehicles in a lot at the Heritage Park Apartments in the 1800 block of Evergreen Park Drive.

According to court papers:

Police were dispatched to the parking lot about 4 a.m., on a report of a man vandalizing cars. Officers found 10 cars in the lot that had been spray-painted with yellow paint. Estimated damage to each car was about $100. One officer found a man who fit the description of the suspect walking north on Deschutes Parkway.

The man "said he didn't know anything about any paint." The suspect then threw a jacket he was carrying into the roadway. The officer saw that the jacket "had what appeared to be the same color paint on the right sleeve and a right-handed glove that had what appeared to be the same color paint on the right index finger."

Olympia police arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree malicious mischief. He has three pending misdemeanor cases for property damage. He has "behavioral and mental health issues," according to his pretrial services report.
