OLYMPIA: Business owner plans to run for City Council

Downtown business owner Cheryl Selby announced Monday that she’s running for a seat on the Olympia City Council that Karen Rogers now holds.

Selby had previously filed for candidacy with the state Public Disclosure Commission. Darren Mills of Olympia also filed for the seat. Rogers hasn’t announced whether she will run for re-election and hasn’t filed paperwork with the Public Disclosure Commission.

Selby owns Vivala, a women’s sportswear boutique at 111 Market St., across from the Olympia Farmers Market. She was previously a city employee.

In a news release, Selby said she will “work towards regional cooperation with neighboring cities, seek ways to increase Olympia’s environmental resiliency, and champion our small business community.”
