AR-15 weapon is not an assault rifle

LaceyFebruary 14, 2013

In reading a recent issue of The Olympian, I could not help but notice a letter to the editor about the AR-15.

The AR-15 is a “look-alike” rifle, the military’s M-16. However, the AR-15 is definitely not an assault rifle. The letters “AR” in the AR-15 do no stand for assault rifle. It is commonly believed and accepted that the letters AR stand for the original manufacturer, ArmaLite.

As an aside, no I do not own an AR-15.
