Storm to bring an inch of rain, wind to Olympia Friday
CHELSEA KROTZER/Staff writerAbout an inch of rain is expected to fall over the Olympia area Friday as a storm system moves across Western Washington, according to the National Weather Service. Nearly two inches of rain is expected along the coast. Between one and two feet of snow is expected in the mountains, according to meteorologist Kirby Cook. "It looks like things are on track for this not necessarily strong frontal system, but a vigorous frontal system through the area," Cook said. Heavier rain is expected in the afternoon. "The distribution will be the heaviest on the coast and north and south," Cook said. "The interior will have up to an inch in some spots." In addition to the inch of rain for Olympia, winds are expected to reach between 20 and 30 mph with 40 mph gusts, Cook said. Winds will be worse along the coast and in counties north of Seattle. The incoming storm is typical for the season."We have had fairly benign weather for the last week or so," Cook said. "So this is kind of a typical storm for this time of the year; it's going to have some impacts, but not unusual."
