West Thurston firefighters were called to an auto repair shop on the 19300 block of Elderberry St. S.W. just before 3 p.m.
The two men, 34 and 40, were working on the ceiling of an office inside the shop when the floor collapsed. The two fell to the first floor as 2,000 pounds of debris fell on top of them.
The 40-year-old was able to free himself, but the other man was pinned, the release said.
Firefighters had to move 1,000 pounds of wood, debris and auto parts before they could free the trapped 34-year-old, a process that took about 20 minutes.
The 34-year-old suffered a leg injury. Both were taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
The Thurston County Special Operations Rescue Team, McLane Black Lake Fire Department and Riverside Fire Authority also assisted West Thurston Fire Authority.
