For senior housing goal, Mercy is a good choice
DAN RUBINI have followed the recent articles on Mercy Housing’s proposal to build affordable senior housing across from the senior center. I can’t speak to whether there are better uses of this lot for which investment is actually available (noting past gaps between planning goals and what private investors were willing to develop). However, I do know that Mercy Housing nationwide and in Washington is a true stand-out among low-income and senior housing nonprofits for the depth of their resident services model. They do a lot more than just provide a subsidized place to live. If downtown is going to acquire more senior housing in some fashion, I don’t think we could find a better organization. I’ve lived in Olympia since 1976.
