I’m responding to the obituary of our past Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop recently on the heels of your reporting (Feb. 24, “Hope seen in antiretroviral therapy for HIV threat”).

Given our current budget environment and the importance of healthy communities on a global scale, I applaud the works of Dr. Koop and the intensive campaign to combat HIV/AIDS epidemic by private and public sectors.

I believe continued progress, smart spending, more partnerships and continue investment internationally are essential.
