Capital Playhouse names new artistic director

The Capital Playhouse announced Tuesday that Heidi Fredericks is its new artistic director.

The former interim director, Troy Fisher, resigned after he was charged in November with possession of child pornography. Those charges against Fisher were thrown out by a judge last month.

Fredericks did not immediately return a call seeking comment Tuesday about her new position.

The Playhouse release announcing her appointment said she was a producer for the organization’s Students on the Stage program.

She starred as Miss Adelaide in the first Kids at Play summer production of “Guys and Dolls,” and was one of the first to graduate from the Kids at Play program.

She studied at The Boston Conservatory and Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, among other institutions, and has been a part of organizations such as Olympia Little Theater, Harlequin Productions and the Northwest Playwrights Alliance.

The playhouse will welcome Fredericks at an open house Saturday from 6 -8:30 p.m. at its location at 612 E. 4th Ave. in Olympia. During the event, the organization will announce the shows for the 2013-14 Season in a Box.
