Scouts hopes Camp Thunderbird reopens

JOEL STANGER

I am a Boy Scout in troop 005 and in good standing. The concern I have is that the Pacific Harbors council has chosen to close Camp Thunderbird from Boy Scout camping during the summer. Because Pacific Harbors is in Tacoma, the council shuffles everyone from Tumwater to go to Camp Hohobis. This camp is hours away and is as impersonable as a hospital in Florida.

Our troop has chosen to go to Camp Parsons up on Hood Canal. Please don’t get me wrong, this is a good camp but it’s miles away. It is my hope that the Boy Scout council will reopen and repurpose our Camp Thunderbird. When I have gone to Parsons, other scouts there even from Oregon say how much they would like Thunderbird to be opened again.
