The Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has not filed charges against a 32-year-old Olympia man arrested last week on suspicion of rape.

Lacey police arrested Jerome Lamont Shumate last week based on a woman's accusation that a man raped her in August. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Skinder said Tuesday that he decided not to file charges against Shumate within the 72-hour filing period after his arrest.

"I felt additional investigation was required," Skinder said.

Skinder declined to elaborate on why he chose not to file charges.
