The Port of Olympia is bringing back the Boat Swap & Chowder Challenge this May after the event was canceled in 2008.

Port officials said in a news release that the event is coming back due to its popularity and the improving economy. It was canceled in 2008 because of a lack of parking, port officials said at the time.

This year's event is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 18 at Swantown Marina. The port is looking for restaurants and marine-related businesses interested in participating, as well as event sponsors. The community can buy and sell new and used boats, marine gear and accessories during the Boat Swap.

In 2007, about 12 South Sound restaurants and 1,400 people participated in the event.

For more information, call the port at 360-528-8005 or send an email to inquiries@portolympia.com.
