Thurston County residents recognized at annual celebration

Two dozen Thurston County residents were recognized Monday for their support for children and youth during The Champions For Kids Celebration.

The honorees included lawyers, bankers, retired volunteers, teachers, service workers and public servants from around the county.

Nearly 300 people attended the Monday ceremony, hearing about the work of each honoree. Champions For Kids Celebration is put on annually by TOGETHER!, a non-profit focused on the health, safety and success of youth in Thurston and Mason counties.

There have been 296 awards issued since the event began 12 years ago.

This year’s honorees include: Harold Becker, Dan Beckley, Dan Bruner, Adam Cornwall, Jared Dance, Tad Earley, Karol Ebio, Shea Fitzgerald, David Ford, Monica Gockel, Lowell Gordon, Ed Hibbert, Nina Hoppe, Joe Jackson, Carolee Johnson, Helen Johnston, Beth Kemph, Carole Layton, Blue Peetz, Graeme Sackrison, Marion Smith, Shellica Trevino, Jennifer Williamson-Forster, and John Wright.'

Nominations for the 2014 Champions for Kids will accepted this fall.
