The Olympia School District will host a community forum about construction of the new Olympia Regional Learning Academy (ORLA) at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Knox Administrative Center, 1113 Legion Way SE.

Construction of the 66,000-square-foot facility is set to begin during the summer or early fall at the old McKinley Elementary School site, 1412 Boulevard Road SE, on the corner of Boulevard Road and 15th Avenue SE in Olympia.

ORLA serves more than 500 students through its online school, home school and Montessori programs, and is currently housed at the old John Rogers Elementary School.

In a letter sent to residents in the neighborhood where the new school will be built, Olympia superintendent Dick Cvitanich wrote that the new $30 million facility will feature 180 parking spots, athletic fields, playground equipment, a covered play shed and a net-zero facility – meaning it will produce as much energy as it uses.

It will be paid with money raised through a construction bond approved by voters in February 2012.

“The March 20 meeting will provide you with an opportunity to review the latest plans and ask questions of district staff and the project’s architectural and construction team,” Cvitanich wrote.

For more information on the project, call 360-596-8560.
