Olympia police are investigating a bag of explosives that was found outside a woman’s trailer in the 2600 block of Martin Way East on the afternoon of March 11.
Olympia police spokeswoman Laura Wohl said there were enough explosives in the bag to completely demolish the trailer, and severely damage the ones near it. Olympia police have called in officials with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to assist with the investigation, she said.
So far, investigators have been unable to identify any suspects, or determine a motive for why the bag of explosives was left in plain view under a wheel directly outside the woman’s trailer, Wohl said. There were no threats to the woman in the days or months prior to the finding, Wohl added.
The woman and a neighbor called Olympia police after the woman returned home to find the suspicious bag outside her home.
The woman had a neighbor look inside the bag, and he found the explosives, Wohl said.
Wohl wouldn’t reveal what type of explosives were found inside the bag, but she said that they “are not something you could go to a store or a fireworks stand to purchase.”
There is no indication the explosives belong to the military, Wohl added.Jeremy Pawloski: 360-754-5445 email@example.com
